Abstract The Nb 2 CT x prepared by hydrothermal-assisted in-situ HF generation etching was investigated in terms of its gas sensor performance. obtained mixing AlC with pure water, hydrochloric acid, and fluoride (LiF or NH 4 F) then hydrothermally treated at 180 °C for 24 h. This hydrothermal treatment more efficient safer the synthesis than direct etching. etched LiF had relatively wide interlayer spacing because hydration radius Li + larger that . results also suggest O 5 is formed during process. These spacing, surface termination, secondary phases formation can be controlled etchant, extended applicability insoluble etchants. synthesized evaluated as a room temperature air presence designated concentrations 6 different gases, which exhibited good sensitivity repeatability fast recovery time, except 3 Hydrothermal-assisted contributed to providing sufficient response without an exfoliation
